      On a cold Friday night at Busch Stadium in St. Louis, Missouri, the St. Louis Cardi­nals defeated the Texas Rangers in seven games for their 11th franchise World Series champi­onship title in one of the most exciting World Series playoffs in recent memory.

    On the Roger Williams Uni­versity Women's Basketball team's Play 4Kay Day, the Hawks earned a convincing 74-51 win over Wentworth In­stitute of Technology Saturday afternoon. The Hawks came out decked with pink warm-up shirts and pink socks to help raise aware­ness for breast cancer.

  • Boston Celtics: Season dependent on resigning talent

    The outlook of the NBA up­coming season, now set to kick­off on Christmas day, is looking good for the Boston Celtics. Many of last years' player con­tracts were up and the team was not entirely sure who was going to remain and who was going to depart.

    Steven Carnevale

    Steven Carnevale was at his first semester at Curry College. Despite choosing to attend the school, something just wasn't right there. "I couldn't see my­self there for four years," Car­nevale said. "I really missed competitive running." That burning fire that made him want to run again was a big factor in his decision to trans­fer.

  • Men’s Ice Hockey heats up the rink

    It was only the first tryout for ice hockey, but already things weren't looking good. "I talked to [Richie] Dart after the first tryout, and I thought we were in trouble," said head coach Ed Silva. "I had to talk him off of a cliff," Dart, a senior defense­man, said.

  • NHL: Washington Capitals coach canned

    Once a fearless leader that led one of the most dangerous teams in the NHL, Washing­ton Capitals head coach Bruce Boudreau was fired from his job behind the bench Monday morning after a dismal start to the season. Under Boudreau, the Capitals had the best regu­lar season record in the East­ern Conference twice in four seasons and, with the help of superstar Alexander Ovechkin, was named Head Coach of the Year in 2008.

  • Double OT goal clinches conference title

       It took two overtimes, but the Roger Williams University Women's Soccer team downed Endicott College one-to-zero in a defensive battle on Satur­day, Nov. 5 to take the Com­monwealth Coast Conference championship title. Defense was on full display between the top two teams in the conference, as neither team was able to score until there were three and a half minutes left in the second overtime as RWU senior forward Katie Fusaro netted the winning goal.

  • Pendleton, Hawks head to conference finals

    In an exciting semi-final matchup, the second-seeded and defending champion Roger Williams University Women's Soccer team defeated third seed Salve Regina University four to three Wednesday afternoon in front of an electrified RWU home crowd. The Hawks got goals from four different players to im­prove to 13-6-1 on the year.

    A tall, pale, slender figure stares longingly at the motion­less water below him. He is in the zone, thinking about per­fecting his dive. He leaps into a graceful arc and ends in the wa­ter without a splash. He hears buzzing in the background and the crowd cheering his name.

    Water has always surrounded sophomore Jess McGuire, and not just because she is a regu­lar competing member for the Roger Williams University swim team. "I didn't grow up near the beach, but my family and I al­ways went to the beach every Sunday," McGuire said.

  • Volleyball nets CCC victory

       The number-one seeded Roger Williams University Women's Volleyball team won its third-straight Com­monwealth Coast Conference Championship against second seeded Endicott College with a three-to-one victory Saturday afternoon at the Campus Rec­reation Center.

  • Volleyball shines for parents on senior night

      The Roger Williams Volley­ball team improved its win­ning streak to 16 games as they defeated the Salve Regina Seahawks three to two last Wednesday night at the Recre­ational Center. The Hawks haven't lost since September 17, a three to one loss to Bowdoin, and have been impressive heading into the playoffs next week.

  • RWU Wrestling rebounds after facing D-1 Brown University

    Last Friday, the Roger Wil­liams University Wrestling team faced one of its toughest challenges yet this season and perhaps in school history, as it competed against Division-I Brown University. The match marks the first time in school history that the wrestling team has opposed a D-I squad.

  • RWU Wrestling takes down Coast Guard Academy

    The Roger Williams Universi­ty wrestling team claimed their first Pilgrim Conference victory of the season as they defeated Coast Guard Academy by a de­cisive 37 – 6 on Dec. 7 at the Campus Recreation Center. "It was great," said first-year head coach Jon Egan.
